Is Meta Facebook or Instagram Verified Worth It in 2023?

Mark Zuckerberg surprised everyone last month when he announced Meta Verified, a new feature for Instagram and Facebook. This will be a paid subscription feature and will come with the following perks:

  1. Impersonation Monitoring
  2. Verification Badges
  3. Live Chat Customer Support
  4. Reach and Visibility
  5. Other Exclusive Features

But is it worth the extra cost? Read on as we break down whether or not Meta Verified is worth it.

What is Meta Verified?

Before we tell you our thoughts, let’s talk about what exactly Meta Verified is. It is a paid subscription that include a variety of features like chat support and a blue checkmark – similar to what Twitter does. This program will be offered on Facebook and Instagram. 

Who Can Use It?

Meta Verified is only being tested in the United States, New Zealand, and Australia right now. In order to be eligible, you must meet a variety of criteria including:  

  • At least 18 years old
  • Have a profile that features your legal, full name and face
  • Have a government-issued ID that matches your name and profile picture
  • Have two-factor authentication set up
  • Meet minimum account activity requirements

What does all of this mean for business owners? We’ll break some of that down further along, but it could be difficult for business pages to get verified due to the profile requirements

How Much Does it Cost?

As of right now, it will cost $11.99USD/month for internet profiles and $14.99USD/month for iOS and Android accounts. 

Sounds Good…But What if I Use a Different Name for My Account?

At this time, Meta Verified will only support legal, government names. The company is still working on this detail, however, and will release more information as it becomes available. 

So, What Do We Think?

It’s a fact that there’s been a rise in fake accounts and bots on social media. More and more people – and businesses! – are losing access to their accounts due to hacking. While the idea of verification sounds good, many argue that these types of services should be free to all social media users. 

Meta Verified is still in testing – so there is time for it to change. That’s the best part about testing, after all!
