3 Tips for Inclusive Digital Marketing

It is estimated that one in seven people are neurodivergent. With statistics like that, it is even more important to ensure that your brand is ensuring that they are following inclusive digital marketing strategy.

April is Autism Awareness Month and, in the spirit of that, here are our top 3 tips to maintain inclusive digital marketing from our agency in Washington DC.

1. Keep Your Messaging Simple and To The Point

In order to keep your brand inclusive to neurodivergent customers, keep your messaging literal and to the point. Avoid abstract words or phrases, and only include what is necessary. No flowery, Shakespearean language here! If you confuse your client base, they are more likely to leave and find someone who can break it down for them.

Here are some other ideas:

  • Write in an active rather than passive voice
  • Edit your messages multiple times before publishing. Always look for ways to trim it down.
  • Make sure content follows a logical order.
  • Break content down into small chunks.

2. Offer a Choice of Formats

In order to ensure your consumers have access to your content in a way that’s most comfortable for them, offer a choice of format to them. For example, you could have audio reading or a transcription feature for consumers to use while they browse your website.

You could also have descriptive subtitles for any of your video content. You could even offer interactive buttons on your webpage that clients could hover over and get advice on how to navigate your page. All of these can add to your brand’s digital accessibility and inclusive digital marketing strategy.

3. Be Cohesive

Now when we say “be cohesive,” we mean pick a color scheme and stick to it. You can work with us to come up with branding and color schemes that will ensure you’re complying with inclusive digital marketing.

Many neurodivergent consumers find bold, bright colors hard to look at. By using understated hues that are complementary, you make your webpage less overwhelming.
