In the interest of experimenting with new technologies, I asked ChatGPT to write a blog about why AI writing is bad for SEO.
Without her knowledge of this experiment, I asked my writer to write on the same topic and ChatGPT. She’s a high school English teacher that deals with AI writing every day. Her article is linked below, ChatGPT is pasted below my take, but I’ll let you make your own call!
and didn’t identify that as a weakness.
ChatGPT might be learning from young students as it structures arguments in very formulaic ways (that sound robotic!)
ChatGPT mostly argues technical reasons that it fails but ends with non-technical reasons being it’s biggest failing.
“Artificial intelligence (AI) writing has been touted as a revolutionary tool for SEO, but it may not be the best idea for improving your website’s search engine rankings.
One of the main reasons AI writing isn’t a good idea for SEO is that it often produces low-quality content. AI algorithms are not capable of understanding the nuances of language and context, which means they can’t produce content that is engaging, informative, and relevant to your target audience. This leads to content that is not only uninteresting, but also doesn’t answer the questions or provide the information that your target audience is looking for.
Another reason why AI writing isn’t a good idea for SEO is that it can’t understand the importance of keywords. While AI can identify keywords, it can’t understand the context in which they are used, and it can’t identify the keywords that are most important to your target audience. This can lead to content that is stuffed with keywords but doesn’t provide any value to the reader.
Additionally, AI writing can’t understand the importance of backlinks. Backlinks are a critical component of SEO, as they signal to search engines that your website is relevant and authoritative. However, AI algorithms can’t understand the importance of backlinks, and they can’t identify the websites that are most important to link to. This means that AI-generated content will not have the same impact on your website’s search engine rankings as content that is created by a human.
In conclusion, while AI writing may seem like a great tool for SEO, it can actually have a negative impact on your website’s search engine rankings. It’s important to remember that quality content is the key to success in SEO, and that AI algorithms can’t produce content that is engaging, informative, and relevant to your target audience. Instead, it’s best to focus on creating high-quality content that is written by a human and optimized for SEO.”
